One of the big positives we saw in moving to Jacksonville was that there were so many new places nearby that we could explore! Once we got settled in our house and my family left, we set out for the Blue Ridge Mountains for a little getaway.
Adam found a "cabin" on VRBO, but it was actually like an entire HOUSE. It was huge. They had a basement, the main level and an upper level, and it can sleep at least six. Of course, it was just the two of us, but we were allowed to bring Rye dog, so it was a true family vacation!
The trip out there was longer than we anticipated because we got stuck in Atlanta traffic--8.5 hours, to be exact. No fun. But once we arrived, we were so excited and ready to relax. The cabin was located about 30 minutes from the town of Blue Ridge, Georgia, so it was secluded, but near other cabins, and close enough into town.
I read a lot, sat outside on the porch swing and looked at our gorgeous view, while Adam biked, ran and kayaked...you know, the usual for us. :-)
It was really nice to getaway and relax. I started back to work again (remotely) on the last day after two weeks off. We were supposed to be in the car the entire next day, and when I realized how long of a drive it actually was, I didn't feel comfortable spending it in the car with limited internet access. Not a great impression when you're coming back to work! So I talked Adam into driving back Thursday night, and we left about 6:30 p.m. and arrived home at 1 a.m. It was much quicker coming back, and we always think that driving at night makes you feel like time is passing more quickly!
It was a great getaway for us to recharge before school started the next week. Here's to many more vacations like this one!
